Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault in Tribal Communities
  241

Policing Indian lands in California presents unique issues and challenges. Domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking investigations are difficult enough—conducting them in tribal communities increases the complexity. The best approach when policing any community is to develop an understanding of the people and their culture. It is also important to build effective relationships, before they’re needed, with tribal police and tribal governments.

This telecourse training is designed to prepare peace officers for any domestic violence or sexual assault situations they may encounter in tribal communities and to improve situational awareness and officer safety.
