Statistics point to the success of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Crisis Negotiation Teams (CNT) units in California and across the nation. Despite these successes, SWAT and CNT units must continuously evolve their tactics to conform to changes in the law, technological advances, and societal expectations in order to be ready for future incidents.
Those involved in SWAT and CNT are not the only law enforcement personnel who need to know how these special units operate. Even if an agency doesnt have its own SWAT or CNT units, its officers may be called upon to work with these units from another agency in the region. Using a unique mix of scenarios and firsthand interviews with subject matter experts, this telecourse examines the origins of tactical teams and details the various considerations for SWAT and CNT with segments on preplanned events, spontaneous events (including active shooter), and post-SWAT incident analysis.
