"Doing the right thing" is at the core of building a positive law enforcement image, and for many California law enforcement agencies, this practice has paid off with huge positive impact on the local communities they serve. This telecourse program shows how different law enforcement agencies throughout California are using a variety of innovative yet simple programs to change perceptions and make a positive difference both within law enforcement and about law enforcement. The program teaches ways that an agency can incorporate changes for a better public image-- resulting in more support from the community and from state and local governments.

Community Oriented Policing

Cultural Competency

Shows how to manage the media while keeping officers safe--helping everyone to do their job. Reviews legal issues and describes when and where the media has special rights. Youth Violence Update

Examines the issues related to predicting, preventing, investigating and identifying youthful offenders. Key topic areas discussed include the progression of violence, risk factors, warning signs and indicators, desensitization to the results of violence, violence in the media, truancy sweeps, adolescent sensation-seeking, age issues, technology and the internet, and probation trends.
